About #funisageless

Well, here we are – I turned 50 in 2022. Yep, a whole half a century! And we live in this incredibly weird time where being 50 is seen as both “old” and “not old” at the same time. Funny, right?

Here’s the thing: I’ve never understood why society expects us to stop having fun or finding joy in the things we love just because we’ve reached a certain age. Why should getting older mean giving up on the things that make us happy? Spoiler alert: It shouldn’t. And I’m here to prove that #funisageless.

Let’s skip the rant about ridiculous societal standards (we all know they’re there) and jump straight into the good stuff!

I’m a single mother raising two foster children, and let me tell you, the last few years have been a rollercoaster. Between navigating a pandemic, homeschooling, and keeping the household running, I’ve had to find joy, fun, and laughter wherever I can. And guess what? It turns out there’s plenty of it to be found.

I’ve discovered a love for gaming. From the epic adventures in Neverwinter, to the historical beauty of Assassin’s Creed, and even the fast-paced chaos of Apex Legends, gaming has become my go-to for stress relief, adventure, and a whole lot of fun. And I’m not alone – my kids love it too. Whether they’re helping me choose my next in-game outfit or explaining the latest Pokémon they’ve caught, it’s something we bond over. Sometimes, they’re showing me the newest cosmetic they’ve unlocked in their games, and honestly, watching their excitement is half the fun!

Last year, I stumbled into the world of cosplay and let me tell you – I’m obsessed! There’s something magical about transforming yourself into a character you love, whether it’s a TV or movie hero or a game character you’ve spent hours playing as. The makeup, the wigs, the costumes – it’s like living out a fantasy, and my kids love getting involved too. From picking out props to snapping photos, it’s become a family activity. It’s also a reminder that fun can come in many forms, and it’s never too late to try something new.

And speaking of trying new things, let’s talk about tattoos. Yep, tattoos at over 50. I spent half my life without them, so why not spend the next half decorating my body the way I want to? Each tattoo tells a story, and at this point in life, I’ve got plenty of stories to tell!

So here’s my challenge to you: What brings you joy, laughter, peace, and happiness? What are those things in your life that light you up? Are you doing them? If not, why not? Maybe it’s gaming, maybe it’s something else – swimming, dancing, beach walks, a new hobby you’ve always wanted to try but haven’t. Whatever it is, ask yourself: why aren’t you doing it yet?

Some people might say, “Aren’t you too old to game or cosplay?” And I say, absolutely not! After all, the past two years have taught us that finding fun in life is essential – whether it’s gaming solo to unwind or playing with friends to stay social. Gaming isn’t just for kids anymore, and it’s time we celebrate the positive impact it has on everyone, young and old. From improving hand-eye coordination to sharpening problem-solving skills, there’s so much good that comes from it.

And that’s why I started this blog. #Funisageless is a space to celebrate the things that bring us joy, and to encourage you to explore the things that make you smile, too. Whether it’s gaming, cosplay, or something else entirely, the important thing is to keep having fun – because age is just a number, and we’re here to live our best lives!
